Martijn (DSG): My name is Martijn Vermeer, I’m Chief Assets and Innovation Officer at DSG.

***

Jan (Powernaut): I’m Jan, I’m an energy market expert and I work at Powernaut.

***

Maarten (Withthegrid): My name is Maarten, I’m the Belgian representative of Withthegrid.

***

Martijn (DSG): DSG is an independent power producer owning our own PV assets within the Netherlands.

***

Maarten (Withthegrid): The Teleport (Withthegrid’s gateway) manages connectivity between all the hardware. It manages the technical safety on site, manages cybersecurity. So our responsibility is making sure everything happens in a resilient, safe and efficient way.

From Powernaut’s perspective, you optimize a portfolio. So your responsibility is gathering the data, making proper financial optimizations and then delivering financial value to DSG.

***

Jan (Powernaut): Withthegrid allows us access to the assets, but also what they give us is a very easy way to onboard.

***

Martijn (DSG): What really surprised me is the speed of our integration. So, Powernaut connects to the cloud from Withthegrid to get the live data to control the systems on site.

The search that we were doing and bringing on Powernaut enabled us to further develop the control mechanism and the algorithm how to manage our assets.

***

Jan (Powernaut): The role of Withthegrid is to have a reliable and grid secure connection to platforms like, for example, Powernaut. That they do not breach safety margins, for example, that are being requested.

We connect to that and we have to make sure that all of those different assets are monitored, are being steerable and are up for almost 100% of the time. They need to be forecasted. There needs to be alerting when some things go down. We need to calculate the cost of the flexibility and all of those things. That’s our responsibility. From then onwards, we give the steering wheel to DSG and then DSG decides what to do with their power.

Context — 350 MW of rooftop solar opened to Powernaut's VPP

DSG needed one secure and resilient way to connect its portfolio to Powernaut’s Virtual Power Plant (VPP). The connection had to support portfolio control while keeping the assets safe and cybersecure.

Solution — 350 MW of rooftop solar opened to Powernaut's VPP

The Teleport Gateway connects the site hardware with Powernaut’s VPP. Powernaut can receive live asset data and send control instructions, while local control handles site-level safety and operating constraints.

Added value — 350 MW of rooftop solar opened to Powernaut's VPP

  • A secure, resilient, and safe connection between the DSG’s assets and Powernaut’s system.
  • DSG keeps local control and cybersecurity requirements in place.
  • The project shortened the time needed to integrate the portfolio.

"What really surprised me is the speed of our integration. Powernaut connects to the cloud from Withthegrid to get the live data to control the systems on site."

ENGLISH BELOW

ENGLISH TRANSLATION

Pallieter (BEE): Belgian Eco Energy is a 100% Belgian energy company focused on the production and supply of green electricity and green heat.

Together with the Chimay Foundation, BEE developed a wind turbine that meets Chimay’s energy needs. As a result, Chimay can cover more than 80% of its own energy needs with green energy generated directly by the wind turbine.

***

Fabrice (Chimay): Our credo is to preserve the planet for future generations, which is why we invest heavily in energy recovery and energy efficiency.

***

Maarten (Withthegrid): Withthegrid provides the connection between the wind turbine and electricity suppliers such as BEE. In this case, we installed our Teleport Gateway in the high-voltage substation to ensure a physical connection with the wind turbine, allowing it to receive control signals from BEE.
In this way, our Gateway provides a standardised, secure, and cost-efficient way to unlock flexibility for the electricity grid.

***

Fabrice (Chimay): Our collaboration with BEE is open, transparent, and constructive. BEE helps us greatly in identifying energy savings and puts the customer at the centre.

***

Pallieter (BEE): BEEHIVE is a platform that seamlessly connects data from assets — such as the wind turbine here, but also PV installations, batteries, or e-boilers at the customer’s site — to the energy markets.

In the future, we will use BEEHIVE to control many more wind turbines, thereby increasing the profitability of these projects. This profitability is currently under significant pressure due to the many negative electricity prices in the energy market.

This, in turn, aligns with our mission to make the energy transition a success for our customers.

NieuweStroom is a Dutch energy supplier specializing in dynamic energy contracts, helping businesses benefit from real-time pricing and flexible energy solutions.

Context — Unlocking solar flexibility with congestion contracts

Grid congestion limits how much solar power can be fed into the grid. Many midsize solar sites also lack a practical way to adjust production in real time.

That means owners can miss revenue from balancing and congestion services and can remain exposed to negative electricity prices.

Solution — Unlocking solar flexibility with congestion contracts

The Teleport Gateway provides real-time control of solar installations. It connects the sites with NieuweStroom’s flexibility contracts and congestion services (CBCs).

When the grid requires a reduction, the system can lower solar output and restore production afterward. The same control path supports participation in imbalance and aFRR markets.

Added value — Unlocking solar flexibility with congestion contracts

  • Solar assets can take part in congestion and balancing services.
  • Owners can reduce exposure to negative prices.
  • Simple, fully managed solution with a single contract and provider.
  • Batteries can be added to the same technical setup later.

"Many customers with solar panels miss out on extra earnings because they lack a simple way to adjust their output in real-time. Our partnership with Withthegrid flips that dynamic: now we can remotely adjust output to reduce grid congestion and they get rewarded for it."

Eneco is a leading Dutch renewable energy producer and supplier committed to the energy transition through large-scale wind, solar, and thermal projects.

Context — Sharing one grid connection between wind and solar (cable pooling)

A wind farm and a solar park share one limited grid connection. During periods of high wind and solar production, their combined output could exceed the transformer’s limit.

The site also needed a customer endpoint for real-time monitoring and compliance with the distribution system operator’s requirements.

Solution — Sharing one grid connection between wind and solar (cable pooling)

The Teleport Gateway acts as the local control system for both the wind and solar assets. It continuously calculates the available apparent power on the shared connection.

When wind generation increases, the control logic gradually reduces solar production so the combined output stays within the connection limit. The gateway also serves as the certified RTI endpoint for the DSO.

Added value — Sharing one grid connection between wind and solar (cable pooling)

  • Wind and solar can operate at the same site without exceeding the shared connection limit.
  • More renewable electricity can be produced from the available grid capacity.
  • The site is DSO-compliant.
