350 MW of rooftop solar opened to Powernaut's VPP
Project details Hide details
DSG finances, develops, builds, and operates solar power and energy storage systems for its own portfolio. For businesses with unused rooftop space, DSG provides a way to generate a reliable revenue stream without requiring any upfront investment.
Delivered with Powernaut.

Martijn (DSG): My name is Martijn Vermeer, I’m Chief Assets and Innovation Officer at DSG.
***
Jan (Powernaut): I’m Jan, I’m an energy market expert and I work at Powernaut.
***
Maarten (Withthegrid): My name is Maarten, I’m the Belgian representative of Withthegrid.
***
Martijn (DSG): DSG is an independent power producer owning our own PV assets within the Netherlands.
***
Maarten (Withthegrid): The Teleport (Withthegrid’s gateway) manages connectivity between all the hardware. It manages the technical safety on site, manages cybersecurity. So our responsibility is making sure everything happens in a resilient, safe and efficient way.
From Powernaut’s perspective, you optimize a portfolio. So your responsibility is gathering the data, making proper financial optimizations and then delivering financial value to DSG.
***
Jan (Powernaut): Withthegrid allows us access to the assets, but also what they give us is a very easy way to onboard.
***
Martijn (DSG): What really surprised me is the speed of our integration. So, Powernaut connects to the cloud from Withthegrid to get the live data to control the systems on site.
The search that we were doing and bringing on Powernaut enabled us to further develop the control mechanism and the algorithm how to manage our assets.

Jan (Powernaut): The role of Withthegrid is to have a reliable and grid secure connection to platforms like, for example, Powernaut. That they do not breach safety margins, for example, that are being requested.
We connect to that and we have to make sure that all of those different assets are monitored, are being steerable and are up for almost 100% of the time. They need to be forecasted. There needs to be alerting when some things go down. We need to calculate the cost of the flexibility and all of those things. That’s our responsibility. From then onwards, we give the steering wheel to DSG and then DSG decides what to do with their power.
Context — 350 MW of rooftop solar opened to Powernaut's VPP
DSG needed one secure and resilient way to connect its portfolio to Powernaut’s Virtual Power Plant (VPP). The connection had to support portfolio control while keeping the assets safe and cybersecure.
Solution — 350 MW of rooftop solar opened to Powernaut's VPP
The Teleport Gateway connects the site hardware with Powernaut’s VPP. Powernaut can receive live asset data and send control instructions, while local control handles site-level safety and operating constraints.
Added value — 350 MW of rooftop solar opened to Powernaut's VPP
- A secure, resilient, and safe connection between the DSG’s assets and Powernaut’s system.
- DSG keeps local control and cybersecurity requirements in place.
- The project shortened the time needed to integrate the portfolio.
