Eddy Grid

Smarter returns from batteries, solar, and wind. Eddy Grid optimizes batteries, solar panels and wind turbines with smart algorithms.

Eddy Grid optimizes batteries, solar panels and wind turbines with smart algorithms. We balance the energy grid via your connection, so you can quickly make a profit and always have power.

The model is a win-win-win: asset owners get higher yield, grid operators get the flexibility they need to balance the grid, and the energy transition moves faster. Whether you run a battery, a solar or wind park, or you’re a large consumer facing high and unpredictable energy costs, Eddy Grid makes your connection work harder.

Based in Utrecht with a development team in Delft, they operate across the Netherlands, Belgium and Germany and are expanding throughout Europe.

What they do:

  • Battery optimization β€” We trade your battery every 15 minutes across day-ahead, intraday, and imbalance markets, turning passive storage into an actively managed asset. Risk is shared: our fee is a share of the net result, so we only earn when you do.
  • Solar & wind asset optimization β€” Smart bidding and dynamic curtailment squeeze more revenue from every MWh your park produces β€” capturing imbalance income, avoiding negative-price losses, and factoring in subsidies, guarantees of origin, and on-site consumption.
  • Behind-the-meter optimization β€” We coordinate generation, storage, and consumption behind your grid connection so your on-site assets work together to cut costs and make the most of every kilowatt-hour.
  • Energy contract β€” A transparent energy contract for business users, with clear per-MWh pricing and no hidden surprises.
  • Congestion service provider (CSP) β€” We turn your flexibility into congestion relief for the grid operator, easing local grid constraints while creating an extra revenue stream for you.
  • BRP-as-a-service β€” Professional balancing responsibility without becoming a BRP yourself: we handle market access, imbalance management, and settlement on your behalf.

Making better use of wind, solar and storage

Customer

Windmolens Groetpolder BV and Zonneweide Groetpolder BV

The situation

The customer’s goal was to add a battery alongside the existing wind and solar assets and use their grid connections far more efficiently β€” balancing the moments when there is “too much sun and too much wind” and steering actively on the energy market to earn a real return on that investment. Crucially, they didn’t want a passive, set-and-forget arrangement: they wanted a partner that actively manages the assets every day, takes risk alongside them, and keeps optimizing.

For years the parks worked with a large energy supplier, but when active battery operation became a concrete plan, that supplier offered battery control mainly for a fixed fee. On paper that looks safe, but in practice a fixed fee gives the controlling party little incentive to push performance further. The upside of active trading isn’t shared, so it isn’t pursued. Battery revenue is also inherently hard to predict: the market moves fast and price peaks are never guaranteed, which made daily, hands-on market management essential rather than optional. The fixed-fee model simply couldn’t deliver the aligned incentives, proactive monitoring, and “short lines, quick action” the board was looking for.

What was built

Eddy Grid connected the park to their system via the Withthegrid’s Teleport. Combined with Eddy Grid’s smart algorithms, it turned the Groetpolder into a single, actively managed site.

Together, they make it possible to:

  • Trade the combined wind, solar, and battery position actively across the day-ahead, intraday, and imbalance markets, reacting as prices move rather than settling for a fixed outcome.
  • Coordinate all three asset types through one grid connection β€” storing surplus in the battery instead of curtailing it, and using the existing connection far more efficiently.
  • Steer dynamically on real conditions: prices, subsidy thresholds, grid limits, and on-site balancing, all weighed automatically.
  • Monitor performance continuously and act fast when something deviates β€” the active, hands-on management the fixed-fee model couldn’t offer.

The result

The migration to Eddy Grid is delivering on its promise. Across both wind and PV, the Groetpolder parks now outperform the benchmark. The direct result of active daily trading replacing passive, fixed-fee control.

Client is happy with the migration to Eddy Grid.

At the start of onboarding, not every wind turbine was steerable. Through proactive communication and close coordination with Withthegrid, all turbines were brought under active control in a short time, turning an onboarding hurdle into a quick, fully resolved result.

"It started with the battery. That’s where we realized things had to change. We weren’t looking for a fixed agreement for a fixed fee, but for a party that actively manages and is willing to take risk. At Eddy Grid, that was simply the normal way of working."

More connection capacity without grid reinforcement, via Eddy Grid as CSP

Customer

Zeeman

The situation

Growing automation at Zeeman’s distribution center meant the site needed more electrical power. The blocker was regional grid congestion: the grid operator could not simply expand the connection capacity. Instead, the operator offered a Capacity-Limited Contract (CBC), which allows a higher connection value but requires the site to automatically throttle back to its original connection value whenever the grid is overloaded. That throttle-back is only permitted with an advanced EMS and a certified service provider (CSP) in place. Zeeman needed both before it could use the extra capacity at all.

What was built

Eddy Grid acted as the certified CSP. Combined with the Teleport, it delivered the automatic throttle-back that the CBC requires: when the grid is overloaded, the system automatically scales the site back to its original connection value, then releases capacity again once the constraint clears. This is what made the CBC viable and unlocked the higher connection capacity for Zeeman.

On top of that, Eddy Grid optimizes the battery commercially (for battery owner EcoPowerCell) by monetizing the battery’s flexibility by storing and returning energy at strategic moments.

The result

Zeeman’s distribution centre can keep operating safely at full power despite regional grid congestion. Extra connection capacity was unlocked without waiting for physical grid reinforcement

"With this innovative partnership, Zeeman is taking an important step towards a robust, sustainable and future-proof energy supply for the distribution center."
