On the 29th of November 2023, SemperPower announced the successful activation of Castor, the largest Battery Energy Storage System (BESS) in the Netherlands. With a power rating of 30.7 megawatts and a storage capacity of 62.6 megawatt-hours, Castor, situated in the energy hub of Vlissingen-Oost, is a major step forward for the development of large-scale battery systems and balancing needs of the Dutch energy system.
Powering possibilities with the Teleport
Behind the scenes, part of the backbone of Castor’s flexibility lies with the Teleport Gateway. With the Teleport, SemperPower is now able to provide control and monitor the BESS, enabling optimized performance and reliability.
The technical setup ensures a robust connection between the Battery EMS, the Teleport onsite, and the IT systems of the offtakers. Redundancies along the whole chain, including multiple Teleports at each location, act as fail-safe mechanisms to guarantee uninterrupted operation in the face of any disruptions.
